Hello everyone! HAPPY FRI-YAY and Happy Halloween! It's the end of Spooktober, so I thought we could do a Freaky Friday Files edition where we discuss some spooky Halloween facts. Please enjoy!
I'm also pretty sure I've talked about the history of Halloween somewhere on the blog before, but I can't find it. I'll have to look into how to get my blog search bar back.

Spooky Halloween Facts
Halloween is over 2000 years old and is traced back to the Gaelic "Samhain" festival with influence. Samhain is held on the 1st of November, which marks the end of the harvest season and the start of darker days ahead (obviously in the Northern Hemisphere). I recently watched an Irish show called "Bodkin" which had a Samhain festival in it - it was a pretty cool show, a bit dark and scary in parts.
A pumpkin is a fruit - I think a type of berry called pepo.
According to a 2021 YouGov study, at least 40% of Americans believe in ghosts/the paranormal.
Apparently, the original title for the movie Halloween (1978) was meant to be "The Babysitter Murders".
The first ever person to decorate The White House for Halloween was First Lady Mamie Eisenhower in 1958.
There are lots of myths about razor blades in candy and candy being poisoned, but there is one explanation as to why this myth exists - Ronald Clark O'Bryan, who m*rdered his own son with poisoned Pixy Stix. He also attempted to m*rder his other children. He wanted to claim a life insurance policy as he was in debt. So gross.
Apparently, some Halloween rituals used to be "geared at finding a husband". "Women used to throw apple peels over their shoulders, hoping to see their future husband’s initials in the pattern they made when they landed."
Candy corn was originally called "chicken feed" LOL.
Zombies don't exist, but they do in nature - the Zombie ant-fungus is known as "Ophiocordyceps unilateralis". The parasite takes control of ant's bodies & k*lls the ant.
A full moon on Halloween is very rare (like every 18 - 19 years). I think I read that the next one wouldn't be until 2039.
Stay spooky friends!
Much love,
Ash x
