Hi friends! Happy FRI-YAY! In this week's edition of Freaky Friday Files, we're going to take a look at some of the strange events that have happened in 2025, so far... We're living in a hyperreality, where AI and sci-fi are constantly blurring the line between what's real and what's not.

Let's get into it! A quick note from me, though, there won't be a Freaky Friday Files next week as I'm having my procedure on Friday morning, so I don't think Ashy following sedation should do any work that day.

Strange Events That Have Happened in 2025 (So Far..)

  • In early January, a piece of space debris landed in the village of Mukuku in Makueni County, Kenya. Rumours spread that it was "UFO-related" (i.e., alien conspiracies). However, those rumours were shut down promptly, and the object was said to be a random piece of space debris. It was a giant metal round object.

  • There was the first-ever human d*ath from the bird flu (H5N1) in Louisiana, USA.

  • Some researchers in the UK found different types of dinosaur footprints in a quarry, first discovered by a quarry worker who noticed unusual bumps while digging.

  • TikTok went dark for a while in the USA, and it caused a lot of influencers to spill their secrets. You can check out my YouTube video on it "here". Australia has also announced the banning of social media platforms for children under 16, which goes into effect next month.

  • Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, ugh.

  • Katy Perry and other women went to space for like 5 minutes. So weird, so unnecessary.

  • The "100 men vs 1 gorilla" debate (thought experiment) went viral on social media. We even had Robert Irwin weigh in to discuss conservation. Right on, Robert.

  • In May of 2025, rumours spread about haunted Annabelle the Doll going missing and being the "cause" of the plantation fires in Louisiana. Obviously, she did not cause these fires, and Annabelle was never missing - rumours most likely started as a marketing tactic for The Conjuring movies that came out this year. Also, "comedian" Matt Rife purchased Annabelle (idk why you would want to purchase a haunted doll when you're an a$$hole).

  • The Labubu craze went off (I think they're ugly, please don't come for me).

  • I don't even want to talk about this one, but the Sydney Sweeney American Eagle Jeans ad. I don't know how she doesn't realise what it looks like.

  • The Coldplay Kiss Cam moment where Chris Martin figured out two concert goers were having an affair. I don't even think we need a reference for this one; I think it's actually common knowledge.

  • There is a shift in AI - which is pretty scary, where OpenAI released an experimental version of GPT5.5 "that could autonomously develop and deploy a fully functional mobile app — from designing UI/UX to writing backend logic and deploying to cloud servers".

  • A juvenile colossal squid was filmed for the first time ever in the deep sea.

  • The Air India Flight 171 crashed moments after takeoff off and there was only one survivor. So terrifying and awful, and it makes me a little bit scared to get on a plane soon.

  • Jimmy Kimmel was suspended from TV and then put back on again for his comments about Charlie Kirk. Censorship is terrifying.

  • People thought to be construction workers stole jewellery from The Lourve in a heist - this is such a funny crime.

  • There was a "real-life" monster under a child's bed in Kansas. A babysitter was looking after a child on a Monday night, and when the child asked them to look under the bed, they came face to face with an actual person. They got into an altercation, but the suspect fled. It turns out that it was a man called Martin Villalobos Jr., who used to live at the residence, who "was booked on requested charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, child endangerment, felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer and violation of a protection from abuse order."

Stay safe, folks! Thanks for reading.
