50 Facts About Me
Hi friends! Lately, I've found myself a little bit lost with what sort of direction to go in my life. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed, so I thought maybe a blog post of 50 Facts About Me would help centre me a bit and make the right decisions. Yes, I know, I have a lot of blog posts like this, but they are super fun to write.

50 Facts About Me
I have been to a cult before (I wasn't in the cult; I was visiting it for a uni field trip). I have a YouTube story time about it "here". Cults have always fascinated me, so this was a very interesting field trip. At uni, we also did a field trip to a prison and a funeral home.
I have OCD, cPTSD, and generalised anxiety. CBT has completely changed the way I think about things. I am still going through EMDR as well.
The first time I ever meditated, I had an out-of-body experience. It has been very hard to replicate. I'm trying to get back into daily meditation, and I find the best time for me is to do it before I go to sleep. I really like astral projection and hypnagogic meditations.
I really like exercise when it doesn't give me PEM. I miss being as active as I used to be at uni. I am happy to say that I am getting around 10K steps most days at the moment, and I want that to continue.
I consider one of my hobbies going out to eat at cafes/restaurants. I really want to try that pasta bar in Moonee Ponds, Il Caminetto.
Writing is very important to me. I believe that you should never stop writing (same with reading). I think I need to challenge myself more.
My favourite season is definitely spring. I miss seeing the cherry blossoms in CHCH.
Moving from CHCH, NZ to Melbourne, Australia was probably the scariest thing I've ever done - I even threw up the morning of my flight (and bonus, I moved during the pandemic LOL). I think the only person who knows I threw up that morning is my mum because she took me to the airport.
I secretly wish I knew how to do stand-up comedy/improve, but I am way too scared to go to a class.
I have a phobia of ants.
A funny thing that happened to me as a kid was that I was in the car with my dad on the way to the bakery. Then he parked outside, and as I stepped out of the car, I fell into the gutter because the guardrail had come off. My dad was laughing at me, but 8-year-old me was terrified.
My comfort TV show is Parks and Rec.
One country high on my travel bucket list is Iceland.
I love a bubble bath with Epsom salts.
I really want to live close to the beach so that I can watch the sunrise and sunset there every day and have a backyard with some sort of fairy garden.
I have a master's degree by research in sociology. I really wanted a PhD, but I'm not sure if I'll ever get there - I've got no topic and no prospects for scholarships (that isn't meant to sound pessimistic, more realistic).
I am an only child, but I don't think I fit the "spoilt" only child stereotype.
I have always wanted a corgi; I love them so much. They are the best dogs. Benji is the cutest, and of course I am biased!
I am not very good at wearing jewellery.
I don't think I've ever broken a bone, but I did break the cartilage in my nose.
I ran into a wall once (yes, you can laugh, it's funny - it's how I broke the cartilage in my nose).
I can't whistle.
I love Reddit, and my go-to subreddit right now is RBI.
I have never smoked a cigarette in my life (that I can remember).
I actually like dark tourism.
Right now, I don't know what all my hobbies are.
Claymation freaks me out. It gives me a real uncanny valley vibe. I always hated Bob the Builder as a kid and didn't understand why - and now, as an adult, I get why!
I'm a Scorpio.
Sometimes I have eaten cheese right before bed to see if it gives me weird dreams.
I don't think I could ever wear contacts. The thought of something going into my eyes freaks me out way too much. I am happy with glasses, although I probably do need to go for an eye test soon.
I still think NZ snacks are superior to Aussie snacks. Don't get me wrong, there are some great snacks here, but I'll always have a longing for L&P, Cookie Time, and Mallow Puffs.
I used to be really good at badminton. I don't even remember why I gave it up.
My favourite movie is Pulp Fiction.
I love weird flavours like blue cheese, aniseed, cherry, etc.
I'm scared I'm developing a little bit of agrophobia.
I make the best fudge (chocolate and Russian fudge specifically).
I have nerve damage on the roof of my mouth. It's horrible.
I wish I were better at fashion. Whenever I go into the CBD and look in the shops, I do feel inspired.
My celebrity crushes are Colin Farrell, Nathan Fillion, and Andy Samberg.
My personality type is INFJ-T according to the 16 Personalities quiz I just did. I think that means I'm an Advocate, but I know in the past it labelled me as a Mediator (INFP).
My favourite perfume is Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Eau de Parfum because my aunt shared it with me once, and I've liked the scent ever since.
I prefer word games/puzzles to maths or number games. I really like Scrabble or any sort of word-connecting game.
I appreciate my hometown a lot more now that I don't live there.
I feel imposter syndrome a lot.
I love diving down rabbit holes.
One NYE, I was out drinking with my friends and told someone that X was into her, and now they're in a long-term relationship. Maybe I should go into the matchmaking business LOL.
I love spicy things. Surprisingly, spice doesn't upset my stomach re IBS. Mexican cuisine is definitely one of my favourites.
I've never skipped breakfast.
When I was a teenager, I used to think I was hot sh*t and would tell everyone about the long words I knew, like pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis and hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia (ironically, the latter is a fear of long words).
I actually enjoy total silence (except when I'm scared). I find it calming.
Bonus fact: I think I would make a really good PI because I always seem to get to the bottom of things (damn, that makes me sound so conceited).

Much love,
Ash xx
