Hi friends! I can't believe it's the end of winter already! It's been a crazy month for sure and I love doing these little (well, they're actually kinda big) monthly updates and I think a lot of you enjoy them too. With that being said, here's my August 2024 monthly life update!
What's been happening for Ashy, Benji + Luke?
August 2024 Life Updates
It turns out, my toothache was due to an infected tooth so I've been through stage 1 and stage 2 of a root canal, and stage 3 will be at the start of September, gah (I hope that's the last appointment). I was given antibiotics after the first appointment and they really knocked me around - like all I could do was sleep for hours! I do also feel a bit weird because someone told me to get it taken out but that would mean having to pay for a veneer and it would be more expensive and more dangerous as to get a tooth pulled you gotta be sedated and I sure as hell felt awful after my wisdom teeth were taken out, and no, I have more than 1 filling.
I released August 2024 Horoscopes, you can read that "here." September horoscopes will be coming soon - should I continue this into 2025?
Benji learned how to climb up and down the stairs (something which I didn't think was actually going to happen). He has gotten very cheeky as of late (probably the teenager in him).
We spent a week's holiday in Rye (all 3 of us did and we went to heaps of dog-friendly spots). You can check that blog post out "The Ultimate Travel Guide to Rye Victoria (during off-season + ALL the dog-friendly spots)".
We participated in Pawgust (we didn't raise much but it's a good charity to be associated with for Guide Dogs in both Aus and NZ).
One of our favourite comedy shows returned - Thank God You're Here and we also started watching Guy Montgomery's Spelling Bee.
I started to get back into my Netflix shows beginning with "The Umbrella Academy" season 4 and the latest season of "Unsolved Mysteries". I was very disappointed with the ending of The Umbrella Academy and I feel like a lot of other people were too!
I received my first "scam" contact on my blog - I get lots of scam DMs due to having social media, but I had never seen this one before (it's been reported and deleted) - also the email they sent their email from doesn't exist.
I got to Level 43 in Pokemon Go!! Woo (my goal for this year was Level 50 so I'm not sure if I'm gonna get there but I can try).
The YouTube videos I put out during August are as follows (and I think I got out a few more than I usually do in a month): Snow Days and Saturday Drives // Life Update // Travel Vlog: Rye Roadie PART ONE // Travel Vlog: Rye Roadie PART TWO - Brunch, Millionaire's Walk + The Chocolate Shop // Travel Vlog: Rye Roadie PART THREE - Cape Schnack Lighthouse + Alba Hot Springs // Travel Vlog: Rye Roadie PART Four - The Enchanted Forest // The Sociology of Sex and Gender: It's NOT a Binary!
I started a new blog series titled "Random Thoughts I've had lately". People seem to really enjoy these - so far I've just put them under the category Lifestyle but maybe I can add in a new category, but there are so many. Update, I've added in a new category WOO! You can check out the category "here".
Luke and I have been walking Benji in the mornings before Luke starts work and I start my days of blogging/vlogging/writing and there's this (I assume woman) who we always see down one particular street. Now, she's walking with a pram but there's nothing in the pram, no child, no animal, or any newspapers and she always wears a purple top and mask. The first time we saw her I didn't take much notice of her until I was holding our coffees and she came really close to me and looked me up and down, and then the second time we saw her, Luke pointed out there was nothing in the pram (so we tried to come up with conspiratorial reasons as to why that might be but honestly we don't know) and then she walked closer to us again and it legit looked like she was trying to smell our coffees. Maybe she's a ghost? I do not know, it's so weird. Update on the situation - I saw her walking with a man and a child so I assume she drops them off and then walks back with the pram, but still, it's odd behaviour.
One morning, we walked past a cafe in our area that's currently being renovated (maybe around 8:30 am - 9 am) and we saw two police officers with a random lady who was swearing so much at them and calling anyone who walked past her a c*nt and to get off her street (it's a street with shops so that doesn't make sense). Safe to say we walked the other way.
One night, Luke and I woke up and heard (I'd accidentally left a window open) swearing outside - we dunno if two people were having a fight or if it was friendly banter but we stayed inside, that's for sure.
It was bloody hot for the end of winter. Like I just bought all these sweatpants sets and now I don't need them, grr!
Luke and I celebrated two years since our first date (and the day we officially met) - we call this day "Possum Day" because we met a possum and we went out for dinner at North and COMMON in Pentridge. It was expensive but really yummy. And yes, I know, I'm still behind on food reviews, I am behind on everything, why do I give myself so much work? Luke also bought me some NZ snacks from a place in Fitzroy and some flowers. How lovely!
Benji has been waking up around 3 am, 4 am, 5 am for a bit (which is quite odd for him as he usually sleeps the whole night) but I heard a weird sound one night before he woke up and then we realised there was a fox outside so that was interesting, always seems weird to see foxes in suburbia.
I got my first really nasty hate comment on one of my YouTube videos and I am aware, if you put stuff online, there are inevitably people who will be nasty towards you, but I was kinda expecting it later on, not after 9 views LOL. Also, why would you click on a video you don't agree with just to comment hate? I'm all about educating people and fostering conversations and thoughts, gah. Update - I've had more hateful comments on the video and realised the category was "travel" rather than "people and blogs" so we'll see what happens from here - there's been a few more hate comments and I get that biology and sociology are different disciplines and create different epistemologies so technically neither of us are wrong, but hating someone for sharing a specific perspective on something is really strange - you realise if you comment, the yt algorithm will push the video out to more people?
I learned about "Naegleria fowleri" - what people call the "brain-eating amoeba" and I regret it haha.
My mum celebrated her birthday on the 29th of August - today (she's a Virgo) and has been recovering well since her hip replacement surgery. Wish her happy birthday in the comments because she reads these I think!!
My mum has let me know that our cat Bella is very very sick and likely doesn't have much longer so here's hoping she goes peacefully - she's had a very spoiled and wonderful life.
I don't really know if I should be posting about this but a weird thing happened the other night right after people were putting their rubbish bins out for collection. And, this was in broad daylight too! So I see an old man walking down the street and suddenly go into our neighbour's bin and start taking out bottles/cans/any sort of glass. I get a bit wary of the situation so I just stand on my balcony watching him and start recording - I worked out that he'd driven to this neighbourhood and was going up and down waiting for people to put their bins out and taking their rubbish. I also got a photo of his number plate if it does turn out to be more sinister - but I'm assuming he's just taking them to the 10c container deposit scheme - which isn't a lot of money for the amount he had. And he didn't notice me filming him at all which I thought was odd - like wouldn't you wait until dark?

Thanks for reading, see you soon! Ash xoxo
