September 2026 Life Updates
Luke and I ended up getting quite sick on Father's Day (a really bad cold/flu type bug, but it passed pretty fast) and then another week I ended up with the WORST tummy bug/IBS attack of my life. I felt horrible. I woke up, went to the bathroom and was so dizzy. I couldn't eat much and felt so dizzy. Anyway, thankfully that has passed, and I am okay now. It felt like gastro, but Luke didn't get sick. I have missed out on a lot of social time because of my health; it's frustrating.
Luke went to the tulip festival with his family, and he also went to a fancy cricket BBQ somewhere.
I am still dealing with SAD (seasonal affective disorder) a little bit, but we're so close to daylight saving time, so I am hoping that's going to improve drastically over the next few weeks, as I'll be outside way more. I think we're in the week where NZ gets their daylight saving time a week before us, so they're 3 hours ahead for 1 week!
I've had two rheumatology appointments this month, and we're still in a bit of limbo. I'm currently experimenting with an anti-inflammatory medication and then getting another blood test to compare what happens with my markers. He's also really pushing the GLP-1s on me, which I'm not sure how I feel about because I'm not that fat and it's so expensive? Anyway, all I can do is be as healthy as possible, exercise, and look after myself while being patient. I'm doing my best to eat clean right now, and the medication is actually improving my fatigue levels, so I'm interested to see what happens next.
I caught up on my travel content! You can check out my Vancouver Travel Guide and my Victoria, BC Travel Guide if you like. I'm still behind on YT videos, but we'll get there (there's either 1 or 2 more to go). As we did our big Canada trip this year, there probably won't be an NZ trip until next year - my dad's 70th is in July, so maybe we'll be able to go for that if he does something for it.
I'm also having some issues with images on my blog; it, like, glitches out when I go to write my alt text and then puts the images in random places. So far, the only troubleshooting step that has worked for me is to use incognito mode (yes, I've done all the other things like clearing my cache, etc.)
Step Counter Updates: As you guys know, one of my goals for 2026 is to walk at least 5 - 10K steps per day, so here's my September 2026 progress. The two days with not many steps were when I was unwell with a tummy bug. I will add the asterisk days when September is officially over.

The YouTube videos I put out are as follows: Trying Canadian Snacks // Victoria BC Travel Vlog Part 1 // Victoria BC Travel Vlog Part 2 // Steveston Village, Richmond BC Travel Vlog //
The Freaky Friday Files I have put out are as follows: Unsolved Mysteries from Vancouver Island // Time Slips //
TV shows that Luke and I have been watching are: Comedy Central Roast, The X-Files, Schitt's Creek, Another Cuppa with Granny Bingo, HYBPA? The Cheap Seats, Below Deck, Below Deck Med, Parents' Evening, and I finally convinced Luke to watch Person of Interest, and I think he's enjoying it more than he thought he would (I've seen it before, but I'm picking up a lot more stuff that I missed on my first watch). We also watched the movie A Million Ways to Die in the West, which got bad reviews; I think it's funny.
TV shows that I have been watching are: Reacher, Neagley, Widow's Bay, and I finished 5 Star Weekend. I also put on Parks and Rec for when I want to calm my nervous system.
The books I have read this month are as follows: 1. Science's Biggest Oops by Ella Factfinder 2. Victoria's Most Haunted: Ghost Stories by Ian Gibbs 3. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty 4. Deadly Women Volume 23 by Robert Keller You can check out my August & September 2026 Book Reviews "here".
I got my haircut - which is the one high-maintenance thing I do for myself (like a self-care thing).
We took Benji to the park for the first time since his chafing injury, and there were some soccer balls and basketballs he was very happy to play with. Not many other dogs, though, and I think that's because no one seems to be looking after it - like the grass is so high, there could be snakes there!!! Idk why it's so hard to mow the lawns to keep snakes away. We did see a blue tongue lizard while we were walking around there, though; that was pretty cool.
I have really been trying to exercise more, i.e., more steps, more walks, and more strength training, while also pacing and learning what my limits are. I enjoy exercise, so I'm making sure I do things I actually like.
I redecorated our living space because I got bored and wanted a refresh. I like minimalism, but I think Luke likes stuff, haha.
My student loan payments are all done for this year! It would be nice to pay it off so that one day we can buy a house, haha! I want to manifest a house in Williamstown - it's my favourite suburb in Melbourne, and it's still close enough to everything Luke and I need.
Foodie spots that Luke and I have been to this month are: Convoy (great brunch and coffee), Francis Winifred, Coffee Baby, and Bagel Community. Bagel Community has fun iced coffee drinks like a cherry one and an iced caramel with a pink cloud foam on top - very fun.
I ticked off one of my 2026 goals, and that was to make marshmallows from scratch. You can check out my recipe "here".
Tomorrow is mine and Luke's 4-year official anniversary. I'm not sure what we're doing for dinner yet - maybe a green pasta and watching the sunset if it's nice.
Things I am looking forward to in October:
Daylight savings!
Getting outside more.
Seeing what my blood markers do in my next blood test & getting these specialist appointments over and done with.
Looking after Frankie for a sleepover one weekend while Luke's parents are away.
I think Luke and I have a wedding to go to.
I want to make a fairy garden of sorts, but I'm not sure where to start. I found "this" on Amazon, so that might be a good start.
Thanks for reading! Ash xx
