Disturbing Wikipedia Pages You Shouldn't Read at Night Part 2

  • List of banned films - Basically, as the title says. I was surprised by how many movies New Zealand has actually banned. It's interesting to see what countries will censor certain things and which won't. Some really shocked me, like Barbie and Spiderman being banned in certain countries.

  • Timeline of the far future - A detailed prediction of the future. If you're currently suffering from an existential crisis, maybe give this one a miss.

  • Euthanasia Coaster - A hypothetical roller coaster and euthanasia device. Absolutely terrifying concept IMO.

  • Bubbly Creek - Bubbly Creek is the nickname given to part of the Chicago River. The name comes from the gases that bubble out of the riverbed. These gases are caused by the decomposition of blood & entrails that were dumped into the river in the early 20th century by meatpacking businesses. Gross.

  • SCP Foundation - At least this one is fictional LOL. SCP Foundation is a fictional organisation, often featured in stories created by contributors to the SCP Wiki. This is an organisation that is responsible for "capturing, containing, and studying various paranormal, supernatural, and other mysterious phenomena (known as "anomalies" or "SCPS"), while also keeping their existence hidden from the rest of society. It's basically just an imagined online community made up by writers.

  • Death of Gloria Ramirez - Known as the "Toxic Lady," was an American woman who lived from 1963 to 1994. She was admitted to the hospital for late-stage cervical cancer. Following airborne exposure to Gloria, several hospital workers became very ill, three staff who treated her fainted, and five others were hospitalised, with one ending up in the ICU. This was originally thought to be a mass hysteria thing (ya know, cos women are crazy /s). However, investigations found that Gloria had been self-administering DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) as a pain treatment. It is thought that the oxygen from the mask she was given on route to the hospital converted the DMSO into DMS (dimethyl sulfate) - a highly toxic and carcinogenic alkylating agent. It is believed this then turned into the gas, and may be one explanation as to what went on with all the hospital staff. Gloria passed away due to cancer complications.

  • Crime in Antarctica - You would think that there wouldn't be any crime here, BUT there have been a few, including ass*ult, SA, arson, and homicide. Maybe Stephen King might get some inspiration here.

  • UK undercover policing relationships scandal - This article refers to around 2011 - 2012, when the UK media disclosed that some of their undercover police officers, as part of their "false personas," were getting into intimate relationships with people of targeted groups. Some of them proposed marriage, and some fathered children. The partners were unaware that they were undercover police officers. What a disgusting violation.

  • Missing white woman syndrome - A term used to describe how missing white women tend to be reported higher than women of colour who are missing. They also tend to be middle-upper class. We need to do better when it comes to this.

  • Murder of Helle Crafts - A Danish flight attendant who was m*rdered by her husband in 1986. It was Connecticut's first m*rder trial without a body, as her husband had put her through a wood chipper - gruesome. This crime inspired the movie Fargo. Helle had also told friends, "If something happens to me, don't assume it was accident."

Thank you for reading!

Let me know if you'd like a part 3 to this series in the comments.
