Freaky Friday Files: Mysteries That Probably Won't Ever Be Solved

Hi friends! Happy Friday. It's a busy busy week for us! Luke is super packed with work stuff and cricket stuff and today Benji is going in for his neutering operation (they say to leave corgis close to one year old because of their backs) so hopefully everything goes well. I've ordered him a bunch of treats online so hopefully we can keep him entertained inside while he recovers.

Anyway, I wasn't sure if I was going to do a Freaky Friday Files this week and yes, I know, I always say that BUT last minute on Thursday afternoon, I was inspired. So this week's edition of Freaky Friday Files is a list of mysteries that probably won't ever be solved. Enjoy!

Quick Disclaimer: This blog post discusses dark and unsolved mysteries as well as true crime (there are a few bits of graphic information), please read at your own discretion.

Mysteries That Probably Won't Ever Be Solved

Are you like me and you love a good unsolved mystery? Or perhaps, you love watching true crime - for some reason true crime doesn't scare me as much as it should, but hey, at least I'll know what to do if I'm ever in that situation (touch wood that never happens though). Today, let's explore some unsolved mysteries that probably won't ever be solved, well at least in our lifetime anyway.

  • The Circleville Letters - Some claim that this one has been solved but there's a lot of internet sleuths out there that still think it's a mystery to this day (and I kinda agree). Basically, in Ohio (since 1976), strange letters were sent to the residents of Circleville and in these letters, the sender claimed to know the recipients deepest darkest secrets (think cheating scandals, etc). I won't go into too much more detail because I have made a blog post about this mystery "here" and a YouTube video "here".

  • The identity of Jack The Ripper - I feel like this one goes without saying and I don't think I need to put too much detail here but "Jack" was an unidentified serial k*ller active in the year 1888 in Whitechapel district of London, England. He would usually target s*x workers and mutilate them in horrible ways. The way this was done led to speculation that he was some kind of person with medical knowledge.

  • The Zodiac Killer - Although there's a lot of speculation about who the Zodiac Killer, it probably won't ever be solved. The Zodiac m*rdered at least 5 known victims in the San Francisco Bay Area between 1968 and 1969. The nickname was earned by a series of letters he sent authorities/newspapers taunting them. Furthermore, the Zodiac also sent ciphers and cryptograms. Apparently, 2 have been solved and 2 remain unsolved. So scary.

  • The Legend of The Green Children of Woolpit - Allegedly when two children (assumed to be siblings - a boy and a girl) with a green tinge to their skin appeared in Woolpit, Suffolk, England in the 12th century in the village. The language they spoke was unknown to anyone else in the village and they would only eat raw broad beans. As time went on, they learned to eat other foods and their green tinge slowly went away but the boy unfortunately passed away. When the girl learned English, she explained to people that they had come from a "land where the sun never shone, and the light was like twilight. According to one version of the story, she said that everything there was green; according to another, she said it was called Saint Martin's Land." We don't really know if this legend is true, but it could be. Although, I'm pretty sure they were green because all they were eating were broad beans!

  • The Max Headroom Broadcast Signal Hijacking - This one both terrifies me and also makes me laugh at the same time, as it is a strange fence to sit on. On the 22nd November 1987, two Chicago TV stations were hijacked. During this hijacking, an anonymous person wearing a Max Headroom mask was shown. I believe there was only some buzzing sounds in the first one and the second one, people said they could hear reference to Max Headroom advertising. Quick sidenote - Max Headroom was the first computer generated TV host. No one has ever been found to be this person - I kinda think that they had someone on the inside helping them. But isn't that a weird crime to commit? Like what did they get out of it?

  • Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 - I kinda feel like there is a most probably explanation to this one (i.e., the pilot changed course because he wanted to unalive himself). However, the bulk of the plane has never been found (only debris). So, I do wonder what happened to all the passengers? Maybe they drowned? I kinda feel like that's the only expectation or maybe they're out there somewhere, who knows. But my heart goes out to everyone and their families who were on that flight. This incident occurred on the 8th March 2014 and the plane was supposed to go from KL to Beijing.

  • What does the Voynich manuscript say? - This is a manuscript that is at least 600 years old with a lot of coded messages and drawings that have never been solved.

  • Marilyn Monroe's Death - I kinda put this here because I'm reading a book about conspiracy theories at the moment, but there hasn't been any real evidence of who k*lled her or if she unalived herself? With what she was up to, I am leaning towards the former (especially with affairs with both JFK and RFK).

  • Who was Mr Cruel? Check out last week's Freaky Friday Files for more info on this case "here".

  • Madeleine McCann's Disappearance - Probably one of the BIGGEST mysteries worldwide and the most reported on. At the age of 3, Madeleine disappeared from a hotel in Portugal on the 3rd of May 2007. I still don't get why the parents left their kids alone while they went to dinner - I guess it was before the time of cameras and surveillance BUT still don't leave your kids alone lol. I have so many questions. Did the parents do it? Did she get trafficked? How did someone know she was alone? Was it a friend of the family? Do the parents know what happened and hid it from the media? This is such a strange case and my heart really goes out to them not knowing, I hope one day this family gets closure. Surely, if she is alive, she would know that she's the one that was on the news? So scary.

Thanks for reading this week's Freaky Friday Files. I hope you enjoyed this post and I'll see you again very soon.

Much love,

Ash xoxo

Fascinating mysteries! I wonder what their childhoods were like—what kind of experiences might shape someone into doing things like sending cryptic letters or committing such chilling acts? It's eerie to think about the psychological roots of these behavors.

Absolutely interesting point - there's a lot of debate in the serial killer realm about nature vs nurture (and ultimately, I think it's a bit of both). Definitely an interesting psychological perspective. Thanks for stopping by :)

Such an intriguing topic! These mysteries sound like they’d make for some captivating reading. Can’t wait to dive in and see what makes them so unsolvable.
