Hi friends! Curious to find out what I've been reading this month? Well, check out my June 2025 book reviews!

Previous 2025 Book Reviews:

I'm up to 30 books read. How good! I know it's not a lot, and some people are probably at like 100+ already, but I feel like I've read a lot more than I normally do, considering my goal was 20-30 books this year and I usually only get to about 10. So glad to have my Kindle!

June 2025 Book Reviews

  1. Strange Pictures - Uketsu: This was a book recommended to me on Goodreads as one of the reading challenges for May/June, and it was very interesting. I still don't quite know how I feel about it. It was an interesting mystery, and I enjoyed how the pictures helped tell the story, but in some parts I struggled to keep up. However, I did like how everything came together at the end - in a sort of Pulp Fiction Quentin Tarantino kinda way. It's also not clear if the reader is supposed to be the detective or if the reader is just coming along in real-time as the mystery gets solved. Either way, it's a good read if you like murder mysteries or puzzles. I also liked the blogger aspect of it, but I wished there was more of that.

  2. The Girl Most Likely To - Julie Tieu: I picked this book because it was something I wouldn't normally read. It was wholesome, lighthearted, and super easy to read. I'd love to read more books like this, with happy endings. It wasn't like a "will they/won't they" situation, but more of a "how will they get there" situation. I was pleasantly surprised. Overall, a lovely, lovely read. It made me feel good and gave me warm fuzzies.

  3. Echo Burning (Jack Reacher #5) - Lee Child: When I first started this book, I was like why is Reacher being such an a$$hole and then I remembered what happened to him in the previous book with Jodie, and I was like okay, that makes sense. I felt like this book was more about learning about other characters, and we didn't get a lot of "investigator" Reacher. However, the ending really satisfied me. I also had no idea who the perpetrator was until Reacher figured it out, but there were clues hahaha. Usually, it's a little more obvious, but maybe Lee Child wrote it that way so we wouldn't pick up on it until Reacher solved the mystery. TW: Domestic Violence (DV) and racism.

  4. Too Fat, Too Sl*tty, Too Loud: The Rise and Reign of the Unruly Woman - Anne Helen Peterson: I enjoyed this book from a feminist perspective, and I liked the analysis of each woman that the author discussed. However, there were REALLY important topics covered in this book, and there just wasn't enough discussion of them. It was like it was just a tame version of feminism. I know it was written back in 2017, but there have been some controversies with some of the women she talked about since. I liked it, but I found myself wanting more academic conversation. It's like "feminism: lite". I wonder if this book will have a resurgence now that Trump is president again. The author writes for Buzzfeed, so that might be why it's quite an easy-to-digest read, but she also has a PhD in media studies, so as an academic myself, I just really wanted that juicy media analysis.

The next books on my TBR list are: I'm still reading Life Admin Hacks by Mia Northrop and Dinah Rowe-Roberts (it's kinda boring but has good advice so far), and I've just downloaded The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods which seems to have some good reviews so I'm looking forward to dissecting it. I've also got a whole lotta physical books on my bookshelf that I also need to get around to reading, so that'll be my go-to rainy days activity this coming July.

Let me know in the comments what the last book you read was!

Luke also suggested that I start an online book club called "Ashy's Book Club" aka "ABC" so I might post something in my group area on the blog/in my email list. You can navigate to those places on my home page.

Thank you for reading!

Interesting list Ash! Out of your list, I’m most interested in “The Girl Mist Likely to”. I love a good happy ending myself! I remember reading one book that had kind of a mixed ending. It was “Astonish Me” by Maggie Shipstead. It was a very interested read! The book was really good, and the twist at the ending was really interesting, but it really left me with mixed feelings. I still recommend it though! I also enjoyed “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption” by Laura Hillenbrand. It was such a good read. You can see that the author really did her research! Thankyou for sharing your reads Ash! Great post!
