I'm up to 26 books read for 2025! I feel like I'm reading at a good pace for myself this year, although I keep seeing lots of people who seem to read like 5 books in a week and I'm like damn. But thank you to Luke for buying my Kindle for me because it does really make reading a lot faster, especially when you've got a % bar at the bottom telling you how far through a book you are.

May 2025 Book Reviews
Every Little Breath - Keri Beevis: This book took me on a journey - lots of little twists and turns here and there, and it was interesting how the author could switch from the perspective of a serial k*ller back to Casey's life (it was a good yin and yang). Great story, but a bit scary in parts. I liked the writing style because it really made you feel like the characters were talking to you specifically.
The Memory Police - Yoko Ogawa (translated by Stephen Snyder): Well, if you're after something similar to the likes of 1984, The Giver, or Fahrenheit 451, this is it. I honestly didn't know what to expect, but it definitely took me on an emotional roller coaster. The premise is that the characters live on an island where an unknown force slowly makes things disappear; it's heartbreaking, charming, uncomfortable, and strange all in one. The Memory Police also gave like Thought Police vibes, and even though they couldn't read your mind, it was like they could (hopefully that makes sense). I feel like if I go into more detail, I'll give too much away.
Never Let Me Go - Kazuo Ishiguro: This book f*cked me up. When I first read the blurb, I thought it was going to be about a kind of cult, but I was WAAY off. You are made to fall in love with the characters, only to realise that they're clones (I don't think that's a spoiler because it's implied heavily straight away). There was a lot of hyper-sexuality in it, too, and upon reflection, this makes sense because the students at Hailsham wouldn't be allowed to drink or smoke or do any of those normal "rebellious" teenager things. If you want to feel f*cked up about the world, I definitely recommend reading this book. I'm probably going to be thinking about this book for years. And I really wish it had more risky or rebellious behaviour from the characters, but if I say any more about that, it'll be too much of a spoiler, so I'll leave it at that. Overall, a great sci-fi/dystopian novel.
Lights Out - Navessa Allen: Yep, I finally finished this. This was my first "smut" book, and boy, it was intense. It was VERY spicy and intense from the get-go, and it was like dark romance meets true crime, although it wasn't really true crime because it was fiction, but that's how I felt reading it. TBH, it did take me a while to read - a lot longer than my other books. It wasn't bad, but I think it could have done a lot better if the author kept things a lot simpler, like maybe just stuck to the kinks instead of bringing in Aly's family backstory; it just felt forced. However, I did find myself liking the two main characters - Aly and Josh, so that's a bonus. If you are into SPICY SPICY dark romance novels, then I recommend it, but it's intense.
The next books on my TBR list are: Life Admin Hacks by Mia Northrop and Dinah Rowe-Roberts, Strange Pictures by Uketsu, Echo Burning by Lee Child (Yes because I gotta get through the Reacher series), and Too Fat, Too Sl*tty, Too Loud: The Rise and Reign of the Unruly Woman by Anne Helen Peterson. Fingers crossed I can get through all of them for my June 2025 Book Reviews blog post!
