Thursday Thoughts

Hey there, pals! Happy Thursday! So, I've been a bit of a blog ninja lately, sneaking around without posting my usual daily musings or much lifestyle content. Instead, I've been wearing my detective hat, investigating what tickles your fancy AND doing lots of sociology stuff. My blog started as a cosy little corner for my everyday ramblings, so I figured it's time to dust off that old diary and bring back the Thursday Thoughts! Think of it as me just spilling the beans from my brain (like a stream of consciousness blog or diary entry). Hope you enjoy the ride! And if not, there's plenty of other content on my blog for you!

Thursday Thoughts

It's 12:12 pm on a Thursday, and guess what? Melbourne's decided to play peekaboo with the sun today—pretty cheeky for a winter's day! I'm sipping on a KitKat mocha that's so good, even my inner coffee snob is doing a happy dance. Speaking of coffee snobs, I live with one, and if this instant coffee gets his seal of approval, you know it's the real deal! LOL! We are dog-sitting Frankie today and tomorrow for the last time while Luke's parents are away - they get back late tomorrow night (they've been in Europe for the last 6 weeks). I'm sure Frankie is going to be super excited to see his mum and dad. We took Benji and Frankie for a walk down to the park, and now they're both having a snooze in their crates. They love each other a lot - they are definitely like brothers for sure. Even though Benji is younger by 6 weeks, he takes on more of the older brother role, he's got such a protective, empathetic nature. If I am sad/upset about something, he always knows and comes and sits with me. Dogs are the best. We take Frankie on Thursdays and Fridays, as Luke's brother is unable to WFH on those days/Frankie doesn't go to a daycare that can take him on those days.

For this afternoon, I plan on working on some blog content. I don't have anything for my Freaky Friday Files this week just yet, so I'm looking at some shorter unsolved mysteries - especially because some of the FFF can get really heavy, and I like to break it up with things that aren't always triggering. I hope that makes sense. I've been using Reddit as a bit of a research tool lately and looking at iceberg charts because there's SOOO much stuff that I haven't heard about before - I found the Oak Island mystery through there. As a teenager, it took me such a long time to realise that Reddit was like "read-it" and I still feel really dumb about that.

If you've been keeping up with my monthly book reviews, you'll know that I have been reading a lot lately, and I am kicking myself for the conversation I had with my Year 11 English teacher. My favourite teacher. I don't actually know if he's still alive. I hope so, he was such a cool guy. Anyway, he suggested to me to get a Kindle and I was like "Nah, I like reading actual books" but he was right, it's SOOOO much faster. It's like having a little library in your pocket. I've been reading a lot of books that I wouldn't normally read. Like, I'm still reading my normal thrillers and trying to get through the Reacher series, but having Goodreads and a Kindle Subscription means that there are so many new books I can pick up. Like, without it, I probably wouldn't have ever read Strange Pictures or Never Let Me Go, and those books were very strange.

I haven't even put my glasses on today, so hopefully staring at my computer screen doesn't give me too much of a headache. I always use Flux and stuff, but maybe blue light glasses are something I should look at in the future. The past couple of weeks, I've also been struggling with both mental and physical health. Like I do a lot - try and go for walks every day, eat healthy, make sure to take my supplements, do my mindfulness, but I think that doing EMDR therapy is messing me up a little, and I think the only way through is to keep going. I am fortunate enough to have found a really great psychologist who always seems to be on my side and helps me work through specific traumas and memories and whatnot. It's interesting how our brain does the work for us. Anyway, I've been feeling like a bit of a hermit, not wanting to leave the house. I do when I need to, but in winter, I like to cosy up and hibernate like a bear. Luke's birthday is coming up very soon, so it'll be good to get out of the house for whatever we end up doing.

Ironically, we were supposed to have Detector Inspector come to check our smoke alarms today as they were sick last week, but the guy is sick AGAIN this week, so it's now been moved to Tuesday next week. Speaking of that, I need to change it in my diary. Hopefully, they don't need to reschedule for a 3rd time.

I had a weird dream last night, too, one where I was a spy, maybe like a CIA agent, and I was dressed in all black. I have no idea what I was doing, I just know that I was a spy in that dream. That would be such an interesting job - scary though. There's no way I'd be good at it, maybe a PI, I might be able to do that, but I don't know. I'm not as bad a$$ as Jessica Jones. Speaking of career stuff, I definitely feel very behind. Like, I know I've got all my freelance stuff going for me, but every time I go on social media, I feel like someone is moving up the corporate ladder, someone is travelling somewhere awesome, someone got engaged/married, and I'm here writing a blog and making content. Should I be doing more? Yes, I know I have a masters degree and have had plenty of corporate-type jobs, but is there something more out there for me? I love writing. I should also drink more water, hehe.

One thing that really gets me about being an adult is having to choose what to have for dinner every night. I have no idea how people meal plan (prep) because I crave different food every day, and I would definitely get bored and don't wanna waste food. I could never get bored with potatoes, though. They are my favourite and they are SOOO versatile.

What's your favourite way to have potatoes? Let me know in the comments below!

My favourite is probably spicy wedges or double-cooked!

I'm going to end the blog there, thanks for reading!

Ash xx
