What the f*ck happened today? Today has honestly been one of the craziest days I've EVER had, and it reinforces what my therapist likes to say as a joke to me occasionally, "wow, your life is like a TV show, and you're just living it".
It's currently 6:20 PM on Wednesday, the 1st of July. I cannot believe it's July. The year has gone so fast, and I feel VERY behind. Anyway, let's catch up on what happened today. So, as you all know, I've been suffering from some sinus issues for the past couple of weeks, and we all know that you can't really take antibiotics for a sinus infection unless it's really bad. I was starting to feel better, and then yesterday, the tooth that has a crown on it started to feel a bit off, like a high bite sort of feeling, so I started to get a bit worried. I said to my partner Luke that if it was still like this in the morning, I would call the dentist. So this morning came, I called the dentist, and their receptionist must have been late, so I had to leave a VM. Got a call back around 10:40 AM, and explained, and she was like "sounds like a 5 min fix, I think you live close, why don't you come in now?" So I'm like, sweet, I'll grab the car and be like 5 minutes, AND THEN I couldn't unlock the car with my key fob, so I used the actual key, and the bloody alarm went off on the car. Luke was in a meeting, but he came out to help, and we ended up swapping our keys. He's ordered two new batteries for the car key fobs, but the car must have a fail-safe where, if you lock it with the fob and try to open it with the actual key, it thinks you're breaking into the car. So that took me an extra 20 minutes to get to the dentist!!
I get there, and the dentist is a bit confused why I was there, so I explain, and she does a check-up for me, hits it with her tiny hammer looking for pain and does an X-ray to see if the crown has failed/there's any infection inside the tooth, and everything looks good. However, the tooth behind it might eventually need a root canal, but it's not at that stage, so no need to worry there. What she thinks has happened is that the sinus nerve is on the same tooth nerve where my crown is and sinus infections can mimic tooth issues and that if I've eaten anything hard lately (which I did eat steak the other day) that sometimes your tooth can get a bit irritated randomly so she sent me home and just said to take some nurofen and see how I go. I was like "maybe I am just paranoid but we have our Canada trip coming up and I don't want my crown to fall out when I'm halfway across the world" and my dentist was like "don't worry, you can call me from Canada and I can help you, I've got friends there" which I thought was sweet but funny considering how big Canada is. The receptionist was really nice too. She told me to give her a call tomorrow to see how I'm doing and if I need another appointment, but they think once my sinuses clear up, I should be all good. Oh, and when I went to pay, I found an extra $10 in my wallet that I didn't know I had, so I've put that into our shared Canada spending money.
And then, as it's been really rainy the past couple of days, Benji hasn't had his normal walks so we took him for one today and halfway through his walk he decided to roll in literal sh*t and he got it all over his neck and was SO proud of himself so once we got home we had to put him straight in the shower and clean him - and I was very annoyed because 1) it smelt so bad and I can get hypersensitive to smells with my PTSD and 2) we literally gave him a bath the other week!! We also played hide and seek with him after lunch so that he got some enrichment as well. He's now currently sleeping next to me, curled up like a crossaint on his little circle bed.
The next interesting thing that happened was that our cockatoo friends came back and asked for some seed! They've come back to our balcony a couple of times now. Not every day, but it's like they're saying, "hello, please give me some food". Luke likes to give them some safe bird seed - we think this is okay, as they're not relying on us for food, they're just being cheeky. They get bored after a while and fly off.
I've also been selling some stuff on Facebook Marketplace lately, and I put two of my old EF lenses on there that I don't need anymore (I switched to RF mirrorless a while ago), and a guy wanted them straight away. I ended up getting about 5 messages all at once, but I just went with the first message because he said he was going to come straight away. I also still get a bit freaked out answering the door and going out to meet people, so Luke kindly took the lenses out for me, and everything was all good. BUT omg, I'm trying to sell some clothes on there, and I've ranted about this in my weekly newsletter before, but like, people just ghost. I've got at least "is this still available?" and then they disappear, and then a few more where people are like "can I come at X time?" and I say "yes, all good, please message me closer to the time, and I will send through full address", and they never respond?! Like, I am just doing this for safety because I don't wanna give you my address straight away, and then you show up randomly at a different time. Probably me being a bit paranoid, but it's so annoying. When I sold stuff in CHCH on FB marketplace, people were much nicer and less demanding, haha (the guy who bought the lenses today was nice though). I've found that tech stuff like kitchen appliances, camera gear, consoles, etc., sells way better and faster than things like clothing, so I think that's what I am going to focus on. I've got a little desktop oven and an electric frying pan that I don't use, and I am going to sell them next.
I also took some Sudafed to see if that would help my sinus issues, and it's helping a little. I recently remembered that cloves help toothache, so I was like maybe I can put one on my gums and see if it helped, so I did that earlier today and after a couple of minutes, I started sneezing, so there's a hack for you! One of my blogging friends also mentioned putting essential mint oil in a bowl of boiling water and putting a towel over your head like a mini steamer! I do do that a bit, except with Vicks because it helps open up your pores, but I'm going to try her hack. I was also talking to her about how ginger can help with nausea or if you get car sick, and when we were little, how we'd always have Ginger Nuts (NZ biscuits - just googled them and learned some people call them Ginger Snaps) with us. So there's another tip for you if you suffer from car sickness or any type of nausea. Oh, and sometimes a tiny dab of Vicks under the nose can help too!! Vicks VapoRub is such a comforting thing for me - I used to carry it around when I had really bad panic attacks at uni and would always smell like Vicks LOL.
In other news, I am also trying to work out what camera gear I should take to Canada and whether I should take my laptop or not. I only have 7kg for my carry-on bag, so if I take my laptop, I won't have heaps of room for camera gear. I also don't know whether I should take my giant a$$ lens (200mm - 800mm) or leave it here and just rely on my 100mm - 400mm. I wish I had one in between LOL. I am very glad that's my biggest dilemma right now after today LOL.
Anyway, I think tonight Luke and I are going to make the viral feta tomato pasta bake thing because I was encouraged to avoid hard foods for the next couple of days (so no steak, even though steak is helping keep my iron levels up, haha)!! A bit of a later dinner tonight, but the day just got away from us so quick and we're going to watch MasterChef AU then catch up on Gruen afterwards (because they're on at the same time and Gruen is one of my favourite shows ever). Speaking of Gruen, I even had a dream the other night where I was doing a stand-up gig, and I was bombing, BUT there were comedians like Kitty Flanagan and Anne Edmonds cheering me on from backstage. It was a weird dream, and yes, I wanna try and write some comedy, but I don't know if I'll ever do stand up. I'm not scared of public speaking, I'm scared of bombing and not being funny LOL (and the POTS symptoms from standing haha).
Okie, I think that's enough rambles for today! Thank you for reading!!
Ka kite!
Ash xx
