I'm almost 30, and I still have no idea what I'm doing with my life. The other day, my partner asked me, "What's your 5-year plan?" and I got upset because I hate that question. Right now, I'm focusing on my blogging career, doing freelance work, and having multiple streams of income, as well as looking after my mental health and physical health - I'll update you in my August Life Updates, but it's been quite bad lately. I've had so many issues with my health that the corporate world just doesn't work for me. And so I was kinda inspired to write this post - 25 things no one tells you about adult life. Enjoy.

25 Things No One Tells You About Adult Life

  1. Not everyone will like you, and that's okay. You don't need to please everyone.

  2. There will be someone who loves you no matter what, and that might be a doggo, but that is still someone who loves you unconditionally.

  3. It's okay not to have it all figured out - so much of my high school life and uni life was focused on "what do you wanna do when you leave" but life is fluid, things change, you change. It's okay not to know.

  4. People don't care as much as you think. No one is as worried about you as yourself. If you go out looking like sh*t, no one is gonna notice. And even if they do notice, they probably won't remember.

  5. Healing isn't linear; it takes time, and it may fluctuate (case in point: IBS symptoms, mental health, etc.)

  6. Social Media is heavily curated. It's not real life. I love the "de-influencing" trend.

  7. Rejection and failure are all part of life. It's okay if something doesn't work out. It may open up a new avenue for you that you didn't realise was an option.

  8. Everyone else is just as confused as you are when it comes to adulting.

  9. Some people will always be more successful than you, and that's okay.

  10. Try everything once; you never know until you try it. If you don't like it, you don't have to do it again.

  11. It's important to educate yourself in both book-smart and street-smart ways.

  12. It's okay to eat the damn ice cream (this one's mainly for me). As my partner keeps telling me, bodies change, and weight fluctuates.

  13. It's impossible to catch up on washing. Even if you take all your clothes off, something is always going to be dirty.

  14. Health is important - both mental health and physical health. If you are concerned, speak to multiple doctors, push until you get answers.

  15. You have to make your own medical appointments. I still dread doing this and have put off making a doctor's appointment for so long, even though I can do it online and without calling anyone.

  16. Emergency Funds are important.

  17. You don't have to get married to be happy; you can stay single, be with a partner, or do whatever you want. Happiness comes from within, not from other people.

  18. Drama never ends. Family drama is worse than high school drama.

  19. ALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN EVERY SINGLE DAY!

  20. The hardest decision you will make is what to make for dinner every day.

  21. It becomes harder to make friends the older you get. It's also harder to maintain friendships because people work a lot and schedules don't always align. Do what you can to catch up when you can, but also don't feel guilty if life gets in the way.

  22. Empathy is the key to connection, listen and empathsise. Sometimes people just want you to listen without giving them advice.

  23. If someone says something that you perceive as mean, you can always say, "That was hurtful. Was that intentional?" It takes away any blame, and you don't attack the other person.

  24. Comparing yourself to others and their journeys is not good. We aren't on the same timeline. Just because someone else got engaged doesn't mean that's where you should be.

  25. Taxes suck, but make sure you do them properly.

Thank you for reading! What's one piece of advice you live by?
