Day 54 of "Figuring it Out" - Cup Day + More Phillip Island Adventures + Body Image

Updated: Sep 30

Good evening bloggo friendos! Happy Tuesday and Happy Melbourne Cup Day for those of you who had today off!

This morning Luke and I got woken up around 5am by SO many birds out in Phillip Island but we did get to see some pretty galahs out in the trees. We eventually got back to sleep for a bit longer because it started raining so that was nice. The Air Bnb we stayed in was a shipping container converted into an Air Bnb. There was also a cute doggo called Frankie there who said hello. We then headed out down to Cowes for brunch/breakfast and I went for something sweet this morning - waffles and a strawberry smoothie and Luke decided to get vego eggs bene and a hash brown and his usual, long black. We weren't sure how the weather was going to turn out today so after brunch, we went on an adventure to Phillip Island Wildlife Park (I'd been there earlier in the year with my mum and just knew Luke was going to love it there as well). Spoiler alert - he loved it! Anyway, we saw many cute animals. Oh, I also forgot to say we saw the flooofiest corgi in Cowes as well who looked so happy! Back to the wildlife park - we got to feed wallabies, kangaroos, and emus and saw heaps of cool birds. If you're ever travelling around there, it's a must visit place! After the wildlife park, we decided to go back to The Nobbies (where we saw the lightning storm last night) and saw some seagull babies and some terns. Also, heaps of tourists out for the day and it got bloody hot, I wore 50+ sunscreen and still got burnt to shreds, so the sting is pre bad now that we're home. We also saw some pelicans as we were driving back towards Melbourne - so I guess that makes up for yesterday's no pelicans at the feeding area in San Remo!

Speaking of home, it took SOOOOOO long to get back because there was so much traffic and less lanes than normal but the weather started to change as we were driving and we saw a thunder and lightning storm. It was pre hard to get photos/videos of because of how fast we were driving - but I don't think I've ever seen a storm like that while driving. We finally made it home around 6pm and had some of our leftovers for dinner and now we're sitting down relaxing for the evening and watching The Masked Singer (because we suddenly now like this weird af show hehe).

Oh, I also forgot to say that I tried to use my camera to take some videography today (I haven't seen the footage yet, but I'm proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone and doing something different). We also both did over 11,000 steps yesterday and today and with how bad my health has been this past week, I am really proud of that. I'm not always open about these sorts of things but I've definitely been struggling with my body image lately, especially with weight gain (likely a symptom of an iron deficiency and bloating with IBS), worsened IBS issues, and not being able to exercise the way I used to, seeing photos of myself I can't help but critique myself. It really sucks to feel like that and constantly feel like people are watching you and laughing at you for the way you look. I feel a bit overwhelmed and teary writing this today because it's so hard to put into words. But I'm still trying to fight those inner thoughts because I'll be able to exercise again (eventually) and the bloating and weight gain won't be forever. It's just temporary. I eat healthy and exercise when I can/ I just wish I could do as much exercise as I used to be able to and not struggle as much. I think that's as much as I can handle talking about today.

For today's question, I want to know, what's the worst weather you've ever driven through/been in? Let me know in the comments below. For me, it was probably the time I was driving in CHCH and there was an earthquake - I know it's not weather specifically but I could feel it shaking the car. It also may have been some really strong wind but I was 99% sure it was an earthquake so let's go with that + today's thunderstorm!

Have a lovely evening! Much love,

Ash xx

I've driven through some pretty awful thick pea soup fog a few times around the Macedon ranges area. Once I was on my L's and Mum told me she'd drive till the fog cleared (thanks for the vote of confidence Mum 🙃 ) I've been a passenger when there have been torrential downpours around Essendon where we could see the gutters flooding before our eyes. So yeah, no shortage of interesting driving weather

Hope you feel better about your body image again and get to hat place like earlier in the year/last year where you posted bikini shots even. Just keep being you.

Worst weather would be extreme winds more than rain here in nz
