Kia Ora friends! Happy Thursday! Today, Luke and I aren't as bad as we were yesterday (I'm still not sure if I'm sick as well or just empathy sick) but I'll stay inside for now just to be on the safe side because I think people who knowingly go out while sick putting other people in danger are f*cking stupid (but that's just my opinion). And if you go out to a show while you are sick, then you're a dumb ass, I don't care if you hate me for my opinion, just don't do it. Grr, rant over.
Anyway, Melbourne weather today seems super humid but a little on the cooler side. I slept most of this morning and have just been watching YouTube again today, but I kinda got sick of all the vlogmas vlogs and went on a deep dive down into some creepy mysteries - the internet is a weird place. One video I watched today was this one "TikTok Mysteries That The Internet Wasn't Prepared for". I'll embed it below as well:
But I don't think I'd be the same person I am today if I didn't have the internet. I do miss my 2011 Tumblr princess phase where I somehow had a lot of Tumblr followers and made a lot of friends on there that I still chat to regularly - maybe I can channel her energy for my current social media channels haha. Idk why I spent so much time on Tumblr as a teenager - maybe it was escapism or maybe it was a place where I could be myself. Also, I was really good at learning the code of it for some reason. I always remember my irl friends asking me for help if they screwed something up. I mean I don't think my brain works that way anymore but maybe I was smarter than I gave myself credit for. I always make lots of jokes that I'm dumb and things like that and I have no idea where this sentence was going so yeah. The good thing about doing nothing lately is that my brain starts ticking over lots of ideas so I am getting excited to film some more videos (which hopefully will be good).
Also, it's Thankful Thursday (which is something I started doing on Instagram back in maybe 2020 as a way to feel more gratitude in general and I would post a photo or video every Thursday and the caption would be all the things I was thankful for that particular Thursday. So I think I may have brought it to the blog before but doing daily blogs right now kinda means that my brain gets a bit fuzzy with what I've written about and what I haven't. But anyway, today I'm thankful for all the food in my house (we did our groceries earlier this week), all the YouTube videos that are out at the moment and keeping me entertained, Luke's laugh hehe, clean drinking water to keep me hydrated, a surplus of tea, yummy food, technology so I don't go insane, and that I've got a lot of books to read.
I also feel a bit isolated from Luke at the moment because he's taken over the spare room and I've got the main room but it's kinda good to get some alone time while still being together if that makes sense. I can be quite introverted at times and love long periods of solitude so it's kinda nice. Also, when did Reddit start doing yearly recaps like how Spotify does their Spotify wrapped? AND, why is the logo a banana? Reddit is a really weird place and I used to have an old account with lots of upvotes, photos I didn't keep (so dumb), and cool stories on there but unfortunately it got hacked by one of my exes (maybe I'll keep that story for a whole blog post or video story time about all the effed up sh*t men have done to me). Don't worry, I learned from all of it and am super grateful to have the most amazing partner now. But I also like to think that it really helped shape me into the cool person I am today, because I gotta put a positive spin on it somehow.
Anyway. Do I say that too much? Probably.. Will I keep saying it? Also, probably. So anyway, hahaha see what I did there? For today's blog, I thought we'd also take a look at some creepy things on the internet (yes, I know that's vague, but I kinda want it to be vague so I can include things I find creepy). I'm also curious to find out the proper definition of creepy so according to Merriam and Webster, creepy means "producing a nervous shivery apprehension" - which I guess, that's still kinda vague right? So I've taken to Reddit (surprise surprise) but it's a great starting point and I've gone to one of my favourite subreddits, "r/creepy" and today I've sorted by "Top" and "All Time" so let's go through some of these creepy things together:
Number1:
This one freaks me out because 1) I am absolutely terrified of caves ever since I watched Sanctum (A 2011 movie by James Cameron, and if you know how James Cameron works, then you know why it's so scary). I also don't like caves because mum went caving once and came back SOOOO sick, like the sickest she'd ever been. I think I definitely have talked about these before. But I just don't like caves and I mean I feel like I should, especially being from NZ because there are so many cool caves to explore there (and so many glow worms - which I've seen once but don't remember too well but mum also reassures me that we went when I was little). But yeah, isn't this one absolutely terrifying?
Number 2:
Just NOPE, no thank you. I hate caves. Enough said. Don't go in caves.
I really wanted to find out the context of this one but just reading the comments I'm so much more confused because there are multiple explanations. I think it's a statue but other people say it's from an Amazing Race challenge. There's also some LOTR jokes in there too.
Number 4:
This is a type of fungus known as "dead man's fingers" which is kinda interesting. Let's play a game! Mushroom or Dead Man? Hahaha soz that's an awful joke.
I love owls and absolutely think they're my spirit animal but this is very uncomfortable yet interesting to look at. I guess that might describe the definition of creepy kinda well.
Number 6: https://www.reddit.com/r/creepy/comments/9rqzgv/portland_man_found_his_tires_slashed_and_this/
What a bloody creepy note to leave on someone's car after slashing their tyres. Also, what's wrong with people? This is so weird. What else are these people capable of? What if he was driving carefully? How do they know their name? Why am I assuming it was a woman who did this? Gah, don't be judgemental but it just gives off crazy woman energy for some reason. What's that crazy ex girlfriend meme that was just all a facade? Found it "here".
Number 7:
I think this is a screengrab from the movie Annihilation but it does look a lot like what Cthulhu would if he were real. And I'm an avid Lovecraft fan. I didn't think I would enjoy his novels but it's honestly Lovecraft's stories are some of my favourite.
Number 8:
Scary. I'm so curious what's going to happen to people in the future who have been exposed to high amounts of radiation (and I feel so bad for the places where disasters have occurred).
I think I'll end it there because a lot of the top posts ended up being surrealist art which was very cool but you know it's not real because it's surrealism. I also used to be obsessed with surrealism as a teenager and I kinda feel like the stuff AI creates has an eerie similarity to surrealism. Anyway, I am feeling blah again and I've been writing today's blog for awhile now so I'ma end it here!
Thank you for reading!! For today's question, I want to know, what's the creepiest thing you've experienced or seen? Let me know in the comments below. For me, it's probably the time that I was walking to school and walked past this guy in a trench coat who opened his coat and had a knife in his pocket. He was also carrying a bottle (which in hindsight I now realise was alcohol and he was most likely drunk walking home) but I still find it weird how he had a knife. He could have also been a ghost because I never saw him again.
That's all for now! See you tomorrow! Much love, Ash xx
