Freaky Friday Files: Mysteries I found on Reddit

Hello! Happy Friday! For this week's edition of Freaky Friday, I thought we could take a look at some mysteries I found on Reddit. Yes, I spent too much time on there, and yes, I am chronically online, but I was born in the 90s, so can you blame me? I'll do my best to focus on non-m*rder mysteries as I think we need a break from stuff like that right now. I still hope you enjoy this post.

Mysteries I found on Reddit

  • Mission Impastable - Back in 2023, hundreds of pounds of cooked pasta (approx 500) was found dumped in the woods in New Jersey. It was dumped near the river basin in Old Bridge. To this day, no one knows how it got there, but thankfully, the public works helped to clean it up. Reddit sleuths think it may be the work of a restaurant illegally dumping food that they didn't use, but we don't know for sure.

  • Leave Me A Voicemail - 4 years ago, Reddit user /u/chinesezong posted a picture of a poster on a power pole with a number. This is what the poster said: "LEAVE ME A VOICEMAIL (619) 363-5625 "BY" CALLING THIS NUMBER YOU CONSENT TO BEING RECORDED. I WILL NEVER CALL YOU BACK. AND YOUR NUMBER WILL NEVER BE SHARED." There is no clear answer as to what this is, but many speculate that it could be an art project, some sort of social experiment, or an apology line. I've also just found a website for it, "here" where you can listen to the voicemails.

  • American Airlines Mysterious Voice - Back in 2022, many internet sleuths posted about a mysterious voice haunting in-flight announcements on American Airlines. There were MULTIPLE reports of passengers hearing moaning, grunting, and groaning while on their flights. The airlines reported that it may have been an issue with the PA amplifier, but people weren't convinced, as these systems are said to be super difficult to hack. Other theories came to light, such as a medical intercom (which was debunked as they don't exist on AA flights anymore), a pre-recorded audio message bug, or some sort of artificial noise. Very weird, I hope they got it fixed.

  • L.W. Wright: NASCAR's Mystery Driver - In April 1982, William Dunaway (alleged local business manager) of Tennessee contacted The Tennessean about a promising young race car driver called L.W. Wright who would be competing in the Winston 500 (part of the NASCAR Cup Series). Wright "claimed" to have already competed in 43 NASCAR Grand National races. Wright paid NASCAR $115 for a competition license and $100 for the entry fee, and some people were very skeptical of L.W. Wright, BUT there wasn't really anything they could do to stop Wright from competing. Wright convinced a marketing team to sponsor him and help him buy a sports car. Eventually, Wright's story started to fall apart. His sponsors denied ever knowing Wright OR sponsoring him, no other drivers could identify him, and he asked questions that any racer would already know. However, even with this, he still managed to compete in the Winston 500. Wright was disqualified (either he was driving too slow, or he had engine trouble). Wright conned many people (victims) into giving him money or paying for things, so much so that the total cost was over $60,000, which would be more like $160,000 USD in today's economy. When Wright was found out, he went missing. It wouldn't be until 2022 when they found him, he was arrested in 2023, and passed away in 2024. But the mystery is really, why did he pretend to be a NASCAR driver? Was it for fame? Did he really want to be a driver? Or did he want the money? I don't know if we'll ever know for sure.

  • Black-Market Trade in Colorado - In 2018, a funeral home in Colorado was caught illegally selling dec*ased b*dy p*rts. Many of the parts were found on ice rather than embalmed, and some were infected with diseases like HIV and hepatitis. This case also led to a massive inquiry into other funeral homes and found the black market trade for this stuff was booming, which is absolutely disgusting.

  • The "Oohub" website - There's a website online that has existed since 2009. From the looks of the website, it seems to be about new products (like yay/nay), but it also has a search engine like Google at the top right-hand page. Maybe it's some sort of weird AI-written blog or a strange art project, but it is an odd website; it looks kinda fake.

  • Vasile Gorgos - In 1991, a man called Vasile Gorgos (63 at the time) of Romania told his family he was going on a business trip. He was a cattle seller. This wasn't anything odd as he would always go on business trips and then get back in a few days. As he didn't return within a few days, his family reported him missing to the authorities. They didn't find anything and assumed he became a victim of foul play, even having a memorial service in his honour. However, he didn't return until 2021 when a car dropped him off outside his house. He was wearing similar clothes, couldn't remember where he had been, and looked like he had been well taken care of. Neighbours weren't able to identify the car's registration plate, and no one saw the driver. When Vasile was asked about where he was, he just said, "I was home." Some internet sleuths say there have been a few instances where people have abandoned their families in Romania and showed up years later, like nothing had happened. He also could have gotten lost and ended up in a commune, or maybe he went to prison. As the articles aren't in English, I don't have a lot to go on. Maybe the dates were wrong and it's a total mix up? But very odd.

  • The Disappearance of Christopher Kerze - In April, 1990, 17-year-old Christopher (from Eagan, Minnesota) was suffering from a headache, so he stayed home from school that day. When his mother came home, she found a note written by him that said he'd be back around 6 pm if he didn't get lost. The word "lost" was underlined twice. His mum, Loni, found the family van missing and the dog going a bit crazy in the backyard. Two days later, authorities found the car abandoned. The family also received a letter from the city of Duluth that claimed Christopher had lied about being sick that day so that he could have access to the car and that he intended to end his life. Allegedly, he had taken a sh*tg*n with him. Following his disappearance, Christopher's family went to great lengths to try to find him. In 2004, the Eagan PD received an anonymous letter stating that they should stop searching for Christopher Kerze and that he would return home when he was ready. The PD said this was most likely a hoax. I must also point out that one week following Christopher's disappearance, his family started to receive strange phone calls. When family members answered the call, it would sound like noises from a party but when they tried to ask who it was, the caller would hang up. Some of Christopher's friends also received these types of phone calls. Christopher Kerze is still missing to this day.

It's so wild that a restaurant (if that theory's true) would dump that much pasta in the woods instead of donating it to a homeless shelter or food bank. Even if it was already cooked, there must’ve been a better option than just tossing it by a river. If they really discarded it all, that’s not just wasteful—it’s also kind of sad. So many people go hungry every day. The whole thing feels like a weird mix of mystery and missed opportunity.

Yeah, I agree, like why not help someone out! I'm not sure if it had gone off, but it was a weird place to dump it. Could have composted it if it were off and helped plant something! I think it might have been cooked but the articles weren't clear.
