October 2026 Book Reviews

  1. Hunting Time - Jeffery Deaver (#4 in the Colter Shaw Tracker series): Wow, this book had stuff I didn't see coming. It felt like a really long-winded story, and then at the end, it hits you, and you're like, "huh" in a good way. I think I still prefer the TV show Tracker to the book, but this one was quite dark. I give it a 7.5/10.

  2. The Staircase In The Woods - Chuck Wendig: I was drawn to this book because I had read a nosleep story on Reddit about a person who claimed to be a search and rescue officer, and when I saw this book recommended to me on Goodreads, I was like, "Well, I have to read it". I did enjoy how the book was written, with how you just knew the characters based on little information at the start. I also enjoyed the horror of this book; it really hooked me in. I predicted one of the twists near the end, but the second one I didn't see coming. I don't want to spoil too much of this book, as it's a really good read and probably going to stay with me for a long time. There are a lot of themes in this book too: childhood trauma, survivor's guilt, collective blame, secrets, and more. I really liked it, so I have to give this book a 10/10. But if you don't like horror or scary things, I wouldn't recommend it.

  3. Eleven Numbers - Lee Child: A short story book to help bump my numbers up for my reading goal. I definitely am biased when it comes to Lee Child because I love the Reacher books; they are really good, so I was happy to read a short story written by Lee Child. However, because it was so short, it felt like we were missing a lot of background info - I feel like this would work as a TV show where you could see flashbacks instantly rather than finding it out a bit later. I hope that makes sense. The ending was kinda satisfying though because, spoiler alert, the main character just wanted to be a normal person. It also reminded me that I have a 2026 goal of writing a short story, and I have yet to do that, lol. Anyway, I rate this book a 6.5/10 as it was relatable but also a bit confusing with the intense maths numbers.

  4. Reality is Not What it Seems - Carlo Rovelli: Reading this book, I now understand why maths, numbers, physics, and chemistry were never my forte. I really struggle to understand it. It took me about three-quarters of the way through the book to get to something that I was like, "Oh, I get that", when he started discussing spacetime, and that's the interesting part to me because I like things like quantum jumping and astral projection meditations. I also enjoyed the stuff about black holes and a new theory towards the Big Bang. I think because I'm not a physicist, some of the language was hard, so I am going to rate this book a 6/10.

  5. Picture This - Devney Perry: Another short story and a bit of a palate cleanser. Sometimes you just need a good happy romance story where everything works out. Very good. I rate this an 8/10 just for the guilty pleasure of a love story (although I didn't like how there was another character in this book that was SUPER pushy towards a woman who wasn't interested in him.

What's on your TBR list this month?

Thank you for reading!!
