Gratitude Diaries 4: Things I Am Grateful For About Summer

1) Daylight Savings

I LOVE having extra time in the evening. I think I prefer NZ for this, though, as it stays lighter that tiny bit longer than Melbourne does. Yes, this is a very similar one to my Spring Gratitude.

2) An abundance of fresh fruits

I love fruit and tend to eat more of it in summer when it's fresher. My favourite ones are berries and mangos. I do like feijoa & kiwifruit too, but can't eat too much of them because of IBS.

A vibrant mix of fruits on a wooden table: bananas, citrus slices, grapes, apples, blueberries, cherries, and pomegranates. Bright and colorful.

3) Air Conditioning

NZ calls air cons heat pumps because we tend to use them more for heaters, but they are just the same thing. Aussie has one in every room of a house, and it's so good on hot days.

4) Not feeling guilty about eating ice cream

I love ice cream, I'm learning to make it, and I don't feel as guilty eating it in summer because it's hot and we need it, duh!

5) Going to the beach

I LOVE the beach. I want to live near the beach. It's my happy/calm space. Also, it's awful what happened in Bondi, violence is not cool.

6) SUNSHINE!

I love Vitamin D.

7) Wearing jandals/thongs and not having to wash so many pairs of socks

8) Going on holiday

This year we're going to CHCH for Christmas - I've spent the past 3 Christmases in Melbourne, so it will be good to see family at Christmas time. Luke and I also did our Great Ocean Road Trip back at the start of 2024 in summer and that's one of my favourite summer trips.

9) Salads, I actually enjoy eating

I'm not the biggest salad fan, but when summer comes around, it means things like beetroot and feta salad, or potato salad, or even a salad with pomegranate seeds in it. You can check out my beetroot and feta salad recipe "here".

10) Iced Coffees

11) The fresh taste of L&P

Even though I can't always get it in Melbourne. L&P soft drink just hits different.

12) New Year's Eve

It's always been my favourite holiday. I can't go out as much as I used to, but I just love the vibes on New Year's. Luke and I often just watch a movie and drink some champagne.

That's all! Thank you for reading. Let me know in the comments what you're grateful for about summer (or winter, if you're in the Northern Hemisphere).
