Hello! Welcome back to another one of my current obsessions blog posts! We are up to part 5, that's crazy - my last one of these was in January. Hope you enjoy this post, and feel free to let me know in the comments what your current obsession is!!

My Current Obsessions - Part 5

  • TV shows that I'm loving right now are The X Files (bar the episode Home, that was the most disgusting thing I've ever watched, don't watch that episode) and Ground Up - the one with Sam Pang, it's SO funny! Luke says it's got similar humour to Utopia (which is Australia's answer to The Office), so I might have to give that one a go again. I tried a couple of episodes but never got super into it.

  • Having a Milo and a few cookies as my nighttime ritual. It makes me so sleepy, and I love it. I'll probably go back to a sleepy girl mocktail with cherry juice in summer when it's not absolutely freezing.

  • In regard to exercise, I'm doing my strength training that the EP gave me, but I also added my own core exercises. I use resistance bands, 2kg dumbbells, and a yoga ball. I do a progression-regression programme and add in my own stuff + more weights. It has really been helping. I read that if you have a strong core, it acts as a second heart muscle, so that's what I've been working on for my POTS symptoms.

  • I've also changed my electrolytes to coconut water recipes, and it has been amazing. Even if it's just a placebo, I'm much happier drinking coconut water in the morning than salty water that tastes disgusting. Here are some of my recipes: coconut water + kiwifruit + lime juice + a pinch of salt blended over ice, coconut water + frozen dragonfruit + lime juice + salt, coconut water + pineapple juice + lime juice + salt (tastes like a pina colada), coconut water + watermelon juice + lime + salt, and I did one with plums but it wasn't as tasty as I'd like. There are other ways to do homemade electrolytes, but this is what's working for me right now.

  • My walking pad still! I love it for when days are crappy during winter, and I can also listen to a podcast or watch TV while using it. Sometimes I'll get a YouTube walking pad workout and follow along with 1kg dumbbells. It's fun. I do miss HIIT exercises, but this is much better for my nervous system. One podcast that I've been loving is Heart Starts Pounding with Kaelyn Moore.

  • I have been naturally waking up early again at like 5/6/7 AM, and I like doing that. I think it means my sleep hygiene is getting better, and my fatigue is a lot lower, too. This morning I didn't wake up early, but it was FREEZING! I'm always in bed by 10 PM now.

  • When I was younger, I used to shower at night, and then it changed to in the mornings, and now I've gone back to having evening showers, and I think this has really helped my energy levels, and who doesn't love getting into their pyjamas early?! I miss having a bath, though.

  • Overnight oats & chia pudding. I am really going all in on the fibre and protein maxxing, so this has been a game-changer for me! I make chocolate overnight oats with cocoa powder. So good! And I use "these containers", which are so great. I also made a strawberry one once, too. Oh, and I tried an acai bowl, but it didn't quite work, so I've gotta give that one another go!!

  • Doing my "daily blog" posts again, aka my unfiltered thoughts series. I really enjoy writing, so it's helping me get better at it (I think).

  • The cockatoo friends that like to come visit our balcony - they are very cute! We make sure to keep Benji inside when they are here. I always forget how big they are until you're near them hahah

Sulphur-crested cockatoo perched on a balcony railing, with blurred suburban houses and trees in the background.

  • Socialising a lot more. Sometimes I forget that I am really an extrovert. Don't get me wrong, I love my alone time, but I do feel happier when I get to talk to a lot of different people. I'm pretty sure we're going to talk to SO many people in Canada. I also love engaging with Reddit's TV show discussion threads in real time because that's also socialisation for me.

  • Speaking of Canada, I have really been enjoying researching for my trip! If you've kept up with anywhere I've been posting online, then you'll know that we're going to meet my pen pal in Vancouver/Victoria, BC, in August. I love finding all the quirky places to go and things to try. I am interested in trying Japadog. And yes, I will do travel guides for you all!!

  • Palazzo Pants - I LOVE these pants, they are very flattering, and I got some cool artsy-looking ones, and they get so many compliments. They work better with a boot with heels, but I think I'm tall enough to pull them off. Really love them. Here's a pic from the party Luke had (a combined 30th with 2 of his mates).

Smiling couple stands indoors before large red and black number balloons, with hanging plants and patterned carpet in the background.

  • This is probably a weird one, but sometimes I change where I work, like sometimes I will sit at my desk, and other times I will sit on the couch, and it just helps my brain for some reason to work better.

  • Watching dog TV in the background to help with my seasonal affective disorder (SAD). I get really sad on those dark Melbourne days, but thankfully today is sunny!!

  • A Mont Blanc coffee! I wasn't sure at first because the first one I tried was weird, but the coffee shop near our house does an amazing one, I will continue to buy it, even though it's expensive AF.

Hand holding an iced coffee with a pink-and-white striped straw on a sunny sidewalk beside grass and a street

  • I've said this in a blog before, but I am really loving some of the games on my phone right now, such as Solitaire, Disney Solitaire, Monopoly Bingo, Wordscapes Wordsearch, and Tetris. Some of them are even connected to survey apps, so I get money for playing - how good's that?!

  • I FINALLY learned how to add fog and use the masking tools in Lightroom, and I've gone a bit crazy in my editing, but it's so fun, and I love that extra glow I get in my photos now.

Smiling woman in glasses and a pink Dog Mum cap stands by a sunlit lake with trees reflected behind her.

  • My Weekly Newsletter, of course! You can sign up on my home page if you'd like to receive my exclusive content!!

  • Benji (always).

  • Cute beanies! I've got three - one I got with some clothes I purchased as a free gift.

  • I tried a new clay face mask, the iinisfree Super Volcanic Clay Mask and omg, I LOVE it and so does my skin. It's great. I should use it more!!

  • Norco Cape Byron Bay Ice Cream Sticks (the chocolate ones are top tier, and we all know how much I love ice cream).

  • I can't remember if I've said this one before, but I love everything about the TV show Gruen, and I want to be on it.

  • Tooth Mousse Plus - this is amazing for anyone who has a few fillings. You put it on after you've brushed your teeth at night, and it helps protect fillings. So great.

  • I also don't know if these count as "obsessions" per se, but when I was having those issues with my sinuses, I used a clove to drain them (like put it right up into my gums, and it was immediate relief), Vicks Vapo Rub obviously, and a steroid nasal spray. One of my blogging friends also suggested adding some peppermint essential oil to a bowl of boiling water, wrap a towel over your head, and breathe it as steam - something my mum taught me would open pores, and that helped too!

  • I've said this one before, but I love using Atlas Obscura; it's so fun!

  • Making a meal plan for the week before we do our groceries. It has taken both mine and Luke's decision fatigue away completely. We don't always stick to the days, but it means we're less likely to order takeaway and have stuff ready to go.

  • Listening to my body and looking after my health! I'm taking a break from specialists right now, but when we get back from our overseas trip, I've got to book in with the rheumatologist.

Thank you for reading!! As I said earlier in the blog, let me know what your current obsession is in the comments below. Much love,

Ash xx

Love the X files! I’ve recently just started watching all my favorite episodes and it got me watching it all! Home is gross but so good as well. The older episodes are the best! Our town was always a favorite

Hahah, yes, I love the older episodes. I only watched a few when I was younger and didn't get the humour, but now that I'm an adult, I'm like that's SOOOO clever! Oh yes, I remember Our Town, that one was freaky! Thank you for stopping by :)

What a fun read! I always enjoy these "current obsessions" posts because they feel like catching up with a friend over coffee. Your Canada trip sounds so exciting, and I can't wait to read your travel guides afterward. Those coconut water recipes sound delicious too, especially the pineapple one.

Thank you so much! That's my aim for what vibe it should give, so I'm glad you get that, hehe! YES, we are SO excited. Just a bit worried about the 14-hour flight, but hopefully we can sleep and have the adrenaline help us out. I love my coconut water recipes so much, they have been amazing. Thank you for stopping by :D

Your post has me curious now! I had never really paid much attention to Severance, but the way you described it makes it sound like one of those shows that really pulls you in. I love finding a series that keeps you excited for the next episode. I may have to add this one to my watch list.
