October 2025 Life Updates

  • Luke and I celebrated our 3-year "official" anniversary on the 30th of September. We got an ice cream cake from Gelato Messina & we went to BrewDog for dinner. It was my first-ever ice cream cake (I think). It was good, but maybe a bit overrated. I'd still get another one, but I'd go for a different flavour.

  • We had one of my kiwi mates come visit us (as his partner lives in Melbourne), and we got bagels from Bagels Baby for lunch.

  • The brunch spots we tried this month were Jack & Daisy, The Glass Den, and Nine Yards. My fave was The Glass Den. You can read some of my food reviews over on "Eats with Ash".

  • We went to the Cherry Blossom Festival at Cherry Hill Orchards. It was okay, pretty cool to see the blossoms, but I wish there were more food trucks and stalls. It was cool to go to because it was doggo-friendly, and we got some cool photos, and I made an aesthetic kinda vlog.

  • It was Daylight Saving and my body still hasn't gotten used to it. I bet I wrote that in last year's October Life Updates.

  • HEALTH UPDATE: I saw the haemotologist again, and I haven't really processed everything going on, but basically there's not REALLY any answers yet, still a lot of uncertainty. The good news is I don't have any genetic mutations that are common with MPNS; however, it's still possible to have an MPN, but the only way to fully rule them out is to do a biopsy, which isn't urgent, so it's more of a "wait and see" kinda thing. I also had more blood tests to test for other blood disorders. Some other things it could be are things like Endo and PCOS (but I had a lot of testing for those when I did all my IBS stuff, so we just don't know). At the moment, I have no answers and no sort of treatment plan. I'm a bit over the uncertainty.

  • I spoke to the POTS specialist again, and they can't see me until December 2026 (so that's fun). Obviously, the above stuff is more urgent, as I can make lifestyle changes for suspected POTS.

  • Speaking of health stuff, I've been writing a series called "Chronic Health Diaries" over on my Substack. You can check it out "here".

  • Luke went to one of his friends' engagement parties. I was going to go, but I just felt awful that evening.

  • Today is Luke's Dad's 60th birthday, so we're going out for dinner to The Cray.

  • The YouTube videos I put out are as follows: Our 3 Year Anniversary + Williamstown Beach Vlog // Spring Vlog: Cherry Blossom Festival, Coburg Lake & Puppy Playdates // Vlog Life Unfiltered: The Glass Den, Early Birthday Presents, and Blog Work // I've been doing more vlogs at the moment to try and get back into momentum and it's fun to make health update ones.

  • The Freaky Friday Files I put out this month are as follows: The Hexham Heads // Salvation by Roller Coasters // and one Friday, I put out an iceberg explained article, "The Weird/Creepy Internet Stuff Iceberg" instead of a proper Freaky Friday Files. I'm not sure if I'll get anything out tomorrow with how busy things are, but I'll add it in here if I do (or next month's life updates). I really enjoyed making the iceberg blog, so let me know if you want more or if I should make some YouTube videos explaining icebergs.

  • TV Shows that Luke and I have been enjoying are: 30 Rock, Sam Pang Tonight, The Cheap Seats, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, The Golden Bachelor AU, Taskmaster UK & NZ, Below Deck Med, and The Celebrity Traitors (UK).

  • TV Shows that I have been enjoying are: Palm Royale, Playing Gracie Darling, The Reluctant Traveller with Eugene Levy, The Morning Show (Morning Wars in Aus), Loot, and SNL. I also watched the movie "The Woman in Cabin 10".

  • The books I have read are as follows: 1. Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak 2. 750 Life Hacks by Ivan Itsimple 3. The Final Twist (#3 Colter Shaw) by Jeffery Deaver 4. No Silly Questions: The Daily Aus explains how the world works by Zara Seidler & Sam Kolowski 5. Crazy True Tales by Adam Douglas You can read my September/October 2025 Book Reviews "here".

  • We tried a new ice cream spot - Siconi Gelato, Hadfield. It's a bit of an odd suburb, Hadfield, but the ice cream was nice. I want to go to the Brunswick East location because they do doggy ice cream.

  • We walked around Queens Park with Benji a few times - a lovely spot in Moonee Ponds.

  • We met Luke's brother's GF for the first time.

  • Luke had his car serviced wooo! A few things needed to be fixed, like his brakes and his boot seal. He's taking his car in this afternoon, so hopefully they've got the part he needs.

  • I received some early birthday presents - a walking pad from Luke's family, a book from my dad, and a collection of books from my friend Alex.

  • We booked a trip to Torquay on the 3rd - 5th of November as part of my birthday present (dw it's not till next month), and we finally worked out where we're going for dinner on my actual birthday, but I'll keep that for next month's blog. The rain radar is worrying me, so I'm hoping the weather gods hold out for me as I just wanna sit outside at the beach town - like what do you do in a beach town when it's raining?

  • My student loan bills were paid (yucky).

  • I was having some issues with either bots or spam on my blogs, but I think I've finally managed to fix it. It's so annoying when you put in so much work & something like that happens. I also had some issues with how my blog was looking, so I had a massive play around with everything, and I've lost my search bars - it's a bit overwhelming to try and fix that now, but I'll see how I go - so I'm sorry if you're not able to search how you used to on my blog.

  • We had Frankie over for a playdate with Benji to help get them used to each other for Christmas.

  • We went for a walk along the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail and saw a family of Tawny Frogmouths - so cool AND I had my camera with me, so I was very happy to snap some pics of the beautiful birds (see below).

Two tawny frogmouths perched on a branch against a bright blue sky. One bird's eyes are visible, blending with the bark-like feathers.
Tawnys!

  • After my haemotology appointment on the 29th, we went for a stroll around South Melbourne, had brunch at Nine Yards, then walked down to Albert Park Lake. The same day, we also went to Highpoint and got a few things. Luke wanted to get me some new clothes for my birthday (so much birthday stuff already LOL), so I picked a few things, but women's sizing is so weird, like how can I fit between sizes 12 - 18, make it make sense.

  • As for my insomnia CBT work with my psychologist, I've been doing sleep diaries and trying to make sure I go to bed and wake up at the same time each day, and then slowly increase how early I wake up. I'm still not sleeping well, but I am getting better at waking up early again.

  • I tried to make watermelon sorbet, but it didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped; it's more of a granita or snowcone kinda thing. At least it tastes nice! And it's healthy because it's just watermelon, honey, and lime juice. I think I should have added salt, though.

Some photos

That's all for now!

Thanks for reading!

Ash xx
